A study on the status of dental no-show in Gangneung-si

Abstract
Dental clinics operate treatment appointment system in order to the efficiency and the quality of treatment. When the patient
is a no-show or missed appointment this causes waste the dental service resources of time and materials. The purpose of this study was to survey the status and reduction measures of dental no-show to help reduce the dental missed appointments. We were surveyed the no-show status of 49 dental clinics(response rate: 79.1%) by representatives of each institution, and investigated no-show experience and opinion from 510 adults(20 years+) through self-examination questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS Statistics ver. 25.0. The results show that no-show experience a rate of 85.7% in an last month. The frequency of no-show was the highest 'at least once a day' at 43.9% and also 11.9% of patients had experience in no-show on dental appointment. ¡®Forgetting a dental appointment' was the most common cause in dental no-show, and the preferred method of reduction is to call for confirmation and or sending message for confirmation dental appointment. It is recommend that develop to patients management and dental appointment system to reduce no-show. It is necessary to raise awareness of the problems due to no-show so that the correct dental appointment culture can be established.
